Lin May Saeed\u2019s Motivwahl umfasst Panther, L\u00f6win mit Rehkitz, Affen oder auch so genannte Nutztiere \u2013 im Fokus ihrer Arbeiten stehen der Appell, das Recht der Tiere auf ein selbstbestimmtes Leben uneingeschr\u00e4nkt zu respektieren, und damit zugleich das Verh\u00e4ltnis zwischen Mensch und Tier als solches. Lin May Saeed pl\u00e4diert f\u00fcr eine Revision dieses Verh\u00e4ltnisses, das sich heute wohl mehr denn je auszeichnet durch unseren Nutzungsanspruch gegen\u00fcber Tieren. Der K\u00fcnstlerin geht es um die bedingungslose Anerkennung der W\u00fcrde des Tieres, um seine Befreiung aus den K\u00e4figen.Seit Menschen sesshaft wurden und begannen, Pflanzen anzubauen und Tiere zu Haus-, Nutz- und Arbeitstieren heranzuz\u00fcchten, ist das Mensch-Tier-Verh\u00e4ltnis gepr\u00e4gt durch die biblische Vorstellung, der Mensch als die Krone der Sch\u00f6pfung sei der Herr \u00fcber die Tiere. Diese Sicht verstellt jedoch den Blick darauf, dass der Mensch ohne tierische Partner nie zu dem h\u00e4tte werden k\u00f6nnen, was er heute ist. So liegt denn auch die eigentliche geschichtliche Konstante in der Abh\u00e4ngigkeit des Menschen vom Tier.<\/p>\n

Lin May Saeed ist zum einen eine engagierte Aktivistin f\u00fcr Tiere, zum anderen schafft sie \u00fcberaus poetische Werke \u2013 Styroporskulpturen und -reliefs, Scherenschnitte, Stahlarbeiten, Zeichnungen \u2013 und erm\u00f6glicht dadurch auf k\u00fcnstlerischer Ebene stellvertretende Begegnungen zwischen Mensch und Tier, die im Zeichen der Ebenb\u00fcrtigkeit stattfinden \u2013 bestes Beispiel hierf\u00fcr ist Kofi<\/em>, eine eigens f\u00fcr den\u00a0 Merkelpark im Kontext von GOOD SPACE<\/strong><\/em> geschaffene hybride Bronzeskulptur, die drei Urwesen in sich vereint.<\/p>\n

A panther, a lioness with fawn, monkeys, and so-called production animals: Lin May Saeed\u2019s focus is on animals, on the call for unrestricted respect for the right of animals to a life of self-determination, and on the relationship between humans and animals in general. Lin May Saeed advocates a revision of this relationship which, today more than ever, is characterised by an assertion of the right to use animals. She is concerned with an unconditional positive valuation, with the liberation of animals from cages. After humans established settlements and began to cultivate crops, to domesticate animals and thereby to create animals for the household and workplace, the relationship between humans and animals became defined by the notion that humans are the crown of creation and animals are accordingly lower life forms. This perspective, however, obscures the insight that without animal partners, human beings could never have become that which they are today. Because the actual constant is the fact that people are dependent on animals.<\/em><\/p>\n

From one point of view, Lin May Saeed is an activist; from a second standpoint, she creates \u2014through quite poetical sculptures and reliefs made out of styrofoam as well as through silhouettes, works in steel or graphic works \u2014 substitute, artistically motivated encounters between humans and animals which establish equality on a receptive level. For example, Kofi, a hybrid bronze sculpture consisting of three primal creatures and newly created for the Merkelpark in the context of GOOD SPACE,<\/strong> offers opportunities for encounters on an equal footing.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
