Katrin Plav\u010dak entwickelt ins Fantastische reichende Genrebilder oder Gruppenportr\u00e4ts, wobei sie Themen und mediale Beutest\u00fccke aus Nachrichten, Literatur, Science-Fiction oder der Mythologie verarbeitet. Ihre bemalten Cut-out-Figurengruppen, die an Werbetr\u00e4ger in Kinofoyers erinnern, entstanden zun\u00e4chst f\u00fcr die Grazer Ausstellung Was vom Kino \u00fcbrig blieb und sind nun mit neuen, eigens f\u00fcr GOOD SPACE<\/strong><\/em> realisierten Varianten erg\u00e4nzt worden. Die grotesken lebensgro\u00dfen Figurengruppen, die das jeweilige Personal aus Kinofilmklassikern vereinen, spielen auf die schwindende Wirkkraft des Kinos an, indem sie die enorme gesellschaftliche Relevanz, die das fr\u00fchere Leitmedium Film im 20. Jahrhundert innehatte, ins Ged\u00e4chtnis rufen.<\/p>\n

Eine der Gruppen zeigt das Personal aus Spielbergs Film E.T. \u2013 Der Au\u00dferirdische.<\/em> Eines der Aliens, so der Plot, ist beim \u00fcberst\u00fcrzten Aufbruch der Crew auf der Erde zur\u00fcckgelassen worden. In seinem Unterschlupf in einer nahen Siedlung wird es vom zehnj\u00e4hrigen Elliott entdeckt, der dort mit seiner Mutter und zwei Geschwistern lebt. Die Kinder und der Au\u00dferirdische freunden sich an, teilen telepathisch Gedanken und Gef\u00fchle. Neben dem Gl\u00fcck, das E.T. in der Freundschaft mit den Menschenkindern erf\u00e4hrt, steht das Heimweh nach seinem drei Millionen Lichtjahre entfernten Zuhause. Schlie\u00dflich schafft er es, dank der Hilfe der drei Geschwister zu entkommen und wieder an Bord des seinetwegen zur\u00fcckgekehrten UFOs zu gelangen.<\/p>\n

Filme sorgen nicht nur im Kinosaal f\u00fcr starke Gemeinschaftserlebnisse \u2013 auch fernab der Leinw\u00e4nde verbinden sich Fans, um ihre Leidenschaft mit Gleichgesinnten zu teilen.<\/p>\n

Katrin Plav\u010dak develops genre pictures with fantastical overtones or group portraits; in her pictures, she reflects upon themes and media booty gathered from news reports, literature, science fiction or mythology. Her painted, cut-out groups of figures, which are reminiscent of advertising figures from the lobbies of cinemas, were first created for the Graz exhibition Was vom Kino \u00fcbrig blieb and have now been complemented by new variants created specially for GOOD SPACE<\/strong>. The groups of grotesque, life-sized figures bring together the personnel from cinematic classics, allude to the dwindling impact of movie theatres and film, and simultaneously recall the enormous social relevance possessed by what used to be the leading medium in the twentieth century, namely film.<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the groups shows the figures from Spielberg\u2019s film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The member of a group of aliens is left behind upon their enforced, hasty departure from Earth. Hiding in a nearby suburb, the creature is discovered by the ten-year-old Elliott, who lives there with his mother and two siblings. They become friends, share thoughts and feelings telepathically. Alongside the promised happiness of being taken into the family is a longing for his home three million light years away. Finally, thanks to the help of the three siblings, he manages to enter on board of the UFO that had returned for him.<\/em><\/p>\n
