Sie sind nach Plan auf der Vorder- und R\u00fcckseite einer freistehenden Zickzack-Wand aufgebracht. In jeweils zehn als horizontale Zeilen \u00fcbereinander stehenden Kategorien wie \u201eGesichtsausdruck\u201c, \u201eRaum zwischen K\u00f6rpern\u201c oder \u201eZeichen von Natur\u201c ist in Fotografien und Texten die Delancey Street pr\u00e4sentiert, eine belebte Durchfahrtstra\u00dfe in Manhattans Lower East Side, auf der anderen Seite die Fifth Avenue, die mit ihren Mega-Boutiquen oder dem MoMA als herausragende Touristendestination der Stadt gilt. Die vertikalen Spalten liegen als sequentielle Zeit-Raum-Einheiten \u00fcber dem horizontal sich ausbreitenden Datenfluss. Die schematischen Portr\u00e4ts zweier Stra\u00dfen New Yorks r\u00fccken Beziehungssysteme ins Bild und pointieren Charakteristika des Orts.<\/p>\n<p>Die Stadt erzeugt ihre Fu\u00dfg\u00e4nger und die Fu\u00dfg\u00e4nger kreieren ihre Stadt. Als Besucher k\u00f6nnen wir das Flanieren durch unterschiedliche Milieus als Form des Stadt-Portr\u00e4ts dank einer deutbaren Informationsarchitektur nacherleben. Videos und autonome Werke auf Papier erg\u00e4nzen die Installation.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2013<\/p>\n<p><em>The Data Stream Portrait of New York,<\/em> a space-encompassing installation by the British Conceptual artist Stephen Willats, which was first realized for the exhibition <em>The Strange Attractor<\/em> at Reena Spaulings Fine Art in New York (2011), may now be seen for the first time outside the USA in a second, newly produced version.<\/p>\n<p>Complex data sets regarding two streets in New York were assembled by persons in compliance with the artist\u2019s instructions, for example in the form of photographs, digital or analogue recordings. They have been affixed according to plan on the front and back sides of a freestanding, zigzag wall. In ten categories arranged above one another as horizontal lines and featuring such titles as \u201cFacial Expression,\u201d \u201cSpace Between Bodies\u201d or \u201cSigns of Nature,\u201d Delancey Street, a busy thoroughfare in Manhattan\u2019s Lower East Side, is presented in photographs and texts on one side of the wall. Shown on the other side is Fifth Avenue which, with its mega-boutiques or MoMA, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. Vertical gaps lie as sequential time-space units above the horizontally extended data flow. The schematic portraits of two New York streets bring relational systems into focus and point up characteristics of the site.<\/p>\n<p>The city gives rise to its pedestrians, and pedestrians create their city. As visitors, we can vicariously experience their wandering through various milieus in the form of urban portraits thanks to interpretable informational architecture.
