Rob Voermans Arbeiten definieren sich durch eine eigenartige organische Architekturästhetik, welche zwischen Utopie und Dystopie, Zerstörung und Wachstum, Terror und Widerstand oszilliert. Diese Architektur scheint eine direkte Übersetzung der Zerstörung in eine rein ästhetische Form zu sein, die, was ihre Syntax und Materialität betrifft, an sakrale Orte, improvisierte Obdachlosenunterkünfte oder an dekorierte selbstgebaute Holzstrukturen der Hippiekommunen aus den 1970er Jahren erinnert. Seine Suche nach neuen Lösungen für das Zusammenleben im Angesicht aktueller Fragestellungen zur Entwicklung der Gesellschaft und unseres Planeten ist u. a. in seiner niederländischen Herkunft begründet. Dem niederländischen Stadtbild liegt eine durchweg rationale Planung und Ausführung zugrunde, weshalb dort kein Platz mehr zu sein scheint für offene und undefinierte Orte. Voermans Arbeiten repräsentieren den Widerstand gegen diese starren Strukturen, entsprechend sind seine Installationen offene Räume für Diskussionen und Performances, Treffpunkte gemeinsamer Reflexion.

Die ortsspezifische Installation The Exchange lädt jeden zu dem Gedankenexperiment ein, wie ein globales Währungssystem aussehen müsste, welches, angetrieben von unseren kapitalistischen Interessen, Ökonomie und Ökologie verbindet und so zur möglichen Rettung unseres Ökosystems beiträgt.

The works of the artist Rob Voerman are defined by a peculiar, organic architectural aesthetic which oscillates between utopia and dystopia, destruction and growth, terror and resistance. His architecture seems to be a direct translation of destruction into a purely aesthetic form which, in its formal language and materiality, is reminiscent of sacred sites, improvised dwellings for the homeless, or decorated, do-it-yourself wooden structures of the hippie communes from the 1970s. The artist‘s search for new solutions for communal living in response to current issues about the development of society and the state of our planet is based, among other things, on his background in the Netherlands. The urban landscape of the Netherlands has been thoroughly planned and shaped, so that there is apparently no place in this rigid system for open and undefined places. Voerman’s works constitute a resistance against these structures; his installations are meeting places for shared reflection, open spaces for discussions and performances.

His site-specific installation The Exchange issues an invitation to everyone to participate in a mental experiment involving a global monetary system which combines economy and ecology and is driven by our capitalistic interests towards a possible rescue of our ecosystem.
